opening the flood gates...

I was gonna name this post "getting over my writers block", but then i realized that im not much of a writer to begin with. Of all the things that i am.. overly expressive or imaginative is not among them. These following lines from a book that im reading perfectly summarizes my situation..

"for though two legs may be all that one needs to go from place to place, a hand that can hold a pen is not the sole requisite for writing a travelogue. And I am singularly unfortunate in this that God has not blessed me with the faintest trace of a romantic imagination. I see with these eyes only what there is to see. Where there are trees and mountains, I see trees and mountains. Where there is water, i see nothing but water. I may look up at clouds till my head spins but not a strand of those dark tresses that unfailingly appear to the eyes of poets is visible to me.. It is not, therefore, for me to tell a romantic story. I can only describe the events of my life as they actually happened, and that is what I shall do."

That said.. it still does not excuse me from not writing anything. Most of that post's that appear here are from my old journals on Multiply (see http://cybertailor,multiply.com). Its a bit ironic that i spent all these months building this website to share my journals, but the very thing is keeping me from writing anything. Every time I sit down to write a new travelogue or a blog post, i'll notice something that can be tweaked on the site and end up spending all my free time working on it. But no more.. i'am gonna keep my weekends aside exclusively for writing something. So hopefully i can get through my backlog of travelogues and photos that have piled up over the years. I'am gonna work backwards in time.. starting from my recent trip to HuangShan.. then to Ladakh.. back again to China and then to Assam, Arunachal, Bhutan, Sikkim and Sikkim (i happened to go there twice in the space of six months).  So hopefully the floodgates would be open now...

Ready bec says: Don't underestimate the power of authenticity Sarav - the older I get the more I value the quality of those who dare to be genuine. I read your travelogues to see places through your eyes... minus the bows and bells. Don't disappoint us hmm? ;)

Saravana says: Hey thanks... that was exactly the kinda shot in the arm that i needed. No.. i'll try not to disappoint :) Btw.. just to clarify, when i said that i wanted to improve my writing skills, i didn't mean that i wanted to start writing fiction :). But write with a bit more heart, talk more about how i felt being someplace.. about the people i met and so on. Not just about the places.. and definitely no extra fluff.. (we'll get to bows and bells in Bhutan ;)
